A young Chief Engineer, Gilmark D’Mello was concerned who will look after his wife and daughter while they are visiting our shores on Long Beach. The manager at the Seafarers’ Center, Pat Petit, gave them our phone number and assured them that we were trustworthy. As a result the Chief Engineer was relieved and entrusted his family to our chaplain to take care and they were taken to the city, Aquarium, Lakewood Mall and returned to the ship safely. The Chief Engineer came running down the gangway to thank the Chaplain Chauhan. As a result we had a very powerful gospel prayer meeting in their ship, MOL Brilliance, where 7 people including the Ukrainian Captain Sergei were led to Christ. Our service of love in the name of Jesus opened the way for spiritual blessings to come to the ship in the form of the gospel being spread to people.
I visited the Fe y Esperanza Evangelical Lutheran Church in the city of South Gate, CA, where I had the privilege of providing some bread and few other food items in their Food Assistance program. After that I was able to share about our ministry with them and I prayed for their congregation after which they promised to pray for our ministry. The pastor of the church Rev. Marta Moscoso was encouraged in her ministry.
I made a routine visit to a new ship called Maersk Ensenada where I surprisingly met an old friend named, Captain Gaurav Puri, who has received the gospel in the past. This time, he came to our shore after four years. It was a joyous meeting and he was encouraged to be deepened in his faith.
We were able to complete our long awaited LMM brochure. Thanks to our hard working Board. With special thanks to Rev. Parimal Roy who designed the brochure.
I had a brief talk with our Respected Bishop Rev. Dr. Guy Erwin (Bishop of ELCA), where I was able to share with him our ministry concerns and he has promised his full support for this maritime ministry.
This month our Treasurer, Terry Wall, reported that LMM was low on funds and may not be able to pay Chaplain’s salary, housing or gas. However, God answered our prayers miraculously by way of a sizable donation from Mrs. and Mr. Chim Mandalia, our LMM’s strong supporter and workers. They not only serve as “a chaplain family” but also contribute hugely towards the ministry. Like Paul in the New Testament, they “most gladly spend and (are) spent for (the) souls ” (2 Corinthians 12:15) of many who come ashore. We need more support and prayers for LMM!
